Book Fiesta on World Book and Copyright Day

Books, literature, and copyright are the main focus on April 23, 2017 in celebration of World Book and Copyright Day. The National Book Development Board (NBDB) will spearhead a Book Fiesta for book lovers and copyright advocates. The one-day event will offer a book market by Philippine publishers and activity/exhibit booths by different book clubs and writers’ groups such as shirt printing, storytelling sessions, and book discussions. Surprises await as a special visual fest featuring works of Pinoy comic artists and a discussion and mini workshop on erasure poetry will coincide with the Book Fiesta.

 

Program of the event is as follows:

9:00 – 9:05am      Opening Ceremony

                             Welcome Remarks by Chair Neni Sta. Romana-Cruz

9:05 – 9:30am       Puppet show with the National Library of the Philippines and Philippine-Italian Association

9:30 – 11:00am    Erasure Poetry Workshop facilitated by Ayer Arguelles

11:00 – 12:00nn   On-the-spot comic book making with Tepai Pascual, Harvey Tolibao, Apol Sta. Maria, Rob Cham,

                             and Manix Abrera

1:00 – 4:00pm      Continuation of on-the-spot comic book making and creating the layout of the book

                             by R. Jordan Santos

2:00 – 4:00pm      Book signing with Tepai Pascual, Harvey Tolibao, Apol Sta. Maria, Rob Cham, and Manix Abrera

 

 

The erasure poetry workshop will let participants to make their own poetry using magazines and newspaper articles. The workshop is free for all but slots are limited. Interested participants, who are 16 years old and above, may email [email protected] with a subject line “Erasure Poetry”. Kindly state your name, affiliation, age, and contact number in your email.

 

Freebies to be given away during the Book Fiesta are comics/infographics on copyright know-how for writers and artists by Manix Abrera and shirt printing of quotes from 35th National Book Award winners.
