The National Book Development Board and the ABC Educational Development Center, the first Mindanaoan publisher to venture into children’s books, invite you to the very first Mindanao and ASEAN Children’s Literary Festival for the whole month of October 2021 with the theme “MINDANAOANS IN UNITY BEYOND WORDS!”

The series of programs, which will be broadcasted online through Zoom and Facebook Live, will feature different events involving different regions in Mindanao—such as a series of storytelling sessions, workshops, and awarding of story writing contests.

The Mindanao ASEAN Children’s Literary Festival formally opened on the 9th of October, Saturday, with special shadow play and dance performances from different Mindanaoan groups, highlighting the artistry and lives of the Muslim people in Mindanao.

On the following days, there will be a series of talks and workshops for aspiring authors and illustrators alike, as the festival is graced by the participation of award-winning ASEAN children’s book creators from different fields, such as Filipino writers Mary Ann Ordinario and MJ Tumamac for the picture book writing workshop; Filipino illustrator Eric Gerard Nebran and Malaysian illustrator Emila Yusof for zine-making; and Indonesian artist Evelyn Ghozalli on illustrating for children’s books.

For the younger audience, there will also be a puppet show and a series of storytelling sessions by different storytellers from across the Mindanaoan Region. Storytellers will be broadcasted from Cotabato, Ilomavis, General Santos City, and North Cotabato on different dates in October.
