The National Book Development Board (NBDB), in partnership with the Book Development Association of the Philippines (BDAP), invites all to the Book Industry Summit (BIS) and Aklatan: All Filipino Bookfair 2019 at the Megatrade Hall 3, SM Megamall, Mandaluyong City on November 20 to 21, 2019.



This year’s summit will tackle trends and best practices in the book publishing business and will serve as a platform for industry stakeholders to forge partnerships aimed at increasing the number of books, enhancing book quality, improving book affordability, and widening book discoverability.

The summit will feature well-known publishers and book industry professionals that will surely engage independent publishers, librarians, teachers, and other professionals involved in the book publishing industry.

Be informed of the latest industry trends and development as the NBDB’s Chair Flor Marie Sta.Romana-Cruz presents the “State of the Philippine Book Publishing Industry.”

Joining her is Yani Kurniawan, rights agent for Tuttle-Mori Agency and member of Indonesia’s National Book Committee who handles literary promotion and publishing rights. He will be part of the sessions on “Copyright Infringement and Royalty Issues in Publishing” and “Rights Selling and Buying.”

Hisa Oiwa, deputy editor in chief of PHP Institute Japan, will share her company’s experience as panelist of the sessions on “Developing Readership, Generating Book Buzz” and “Developing Partnerships with Publishers and Institutions.” Ms. Oiwa was a participant in the Asian Publishers Fellowship Program 2018 in Seoul.

Also joining the summit is Hetih Rusli, lead editor of the Fiction Department at Gramedia Pustaka Utama. Gramedia is currently known as the biggest bookstore in Indonesia. Ms. Rusli will share her expertise and experiences as a panelist of the sessions on “Generating Market for Books” and “Developing Partnerships with Publishers and Institutions.”

Other sessions will focus on publishers’ and authors’ registration and incentives, content development initiatives of the government, book development grants, readership, academic publishing, developing and maintaining quality books including textbooks, supplemental learning materials, and revenues from book fair markets.

NBDB will also have helpdesks to provide information and answers to questions about various frontline processes on registration and availment of grants, awards, and incentives.
